Upon his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Minister Brown said
his government will continue its support for the new government in Nepal,
lead by the any party.
When questioned about support to a Maoist lead government, Brown stated that
would make no difference as the Maoists were an elected party in the
Constituent Assembly polls.
He also reiterated his government's readiness to help the government of
Nepal in bringing about peace and development to the people of Nepal.
When asked about the recent Maoist statement on stopping recruitment of Gurkhas in the British Army, Brown said nothing has been conveyed to his government formally, but would look into the matter.
Lord Brown has a busy scheduled today due to the election of president and
vice-president tomorrow.
Minister Brown is meeting Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, different
political leaders, civil society leaders, government officials, UN officials
and diplomats during his short stay in Nepal. He will return on Saturday
