PM meets with Chure Bhawar leader; parties intensify parleys
In an indication how the big parties are working for each and every vote, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala met with chief of Chure Bhawar Rastriya Ekata Party Keshab Mainali on Sunday morning.
Mainali is the lone member of the party. PM met with him to ask for his vote in favour of NC's presidential candidate Dr. Ram Baran Yadav. Mainali had only voted in vice presidential poll on Saturday.
"I told him that we regret their lack of consultations with smaller parties before. Anyway we will vote in favour of national unity," he later told reporters.
Meanwhile, the parties are set to intensify parleys on Sunday ahead of run-off election for president slated for Monday. On Saturday, NC's Dr. Yadav bagged 283 votes while Maoist-backed Ram Raja Prasad Singh obtained 270 votes. None of them were elected as neither could bag the simple majority of 298 votes.
The NC parliamentary party is meeting to forge strategy of how to keep their herds together. Likewise, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) and Maoists, too, are holding their parliamentary party meetings in the afternoon. nepalnews.com sd Jul 20 08
