Maoists start consultation
The largest party in the constituent assembly, CPN
(Maoist), which has refused to take the leadership of new
government, has started consultation with leaders of
various parties and civil society activists.
Party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' held
discussion with civil society leaders at his Naya Bazaar
residence Thursday morning on the future course of the
Nepali politics.
The civil society leaders are learnt to have advised the
Maoist chairman to lead the new government.
Similarly, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-N)
chairman Kamal Thapa met Prachanda this morning. During
the meeting they discussed "possible cooperation" between
the two parties against the "foreign interference in
national politics".
Thapa also advised Maoist leader to lead the new government.
The Maoist party also has called a joint meeting with all
25 parties in the Constituent Assembly to discuss the new
political scenario created after Ram Raja Prasad Singh
lost the presidential election.
Maoists' call for all-party consultation is looked at as
an initiative taken to explore the possibility of an
alternative alliance against the Nepali Congress-CPN
(UML)-Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) combine that
practically sidelined the Maoists in the presidential
elections. nepalnews.com ia July 24 08
