An NC leader proposes Koirala for president
Hours after Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) chief Upendra Yadav opposed electing Girija Prasad Koirala as the first president, Nepali Congress (NC) general secretary Dr Ram Baran Yadav projected prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala as the most suitable candidate for the post.
Speaking at a face to face programme organised by Reporters Club in the capital on Friday, Yadav proposed Koirala for presidency emphasising the need to respect his contribution to establishment of people's sovereignty and democracy in Nepal.
Yadav said debate over the post of prime minister and president has diminished the role of constituent assembly.
However, Maoist leader Dev Gurung opposed Koirala's proposal. His party has on Thursday proposed a non-political candidate for the post. nepalnews.com ia June 06 08
