Transporters call off strike
The transporters have called off their indefinite strike following assurances by the government of 'scientific review' of their fares.
The government has also allowed the transporters to collect 'hiked fares' till the fare fixing committee finalises the review.
The dispute between the government and the transport entrepreneurs had come to the fore after the latter unilaterally hiked their fares by up to 40 percent immediately after the government increased the price of petroleum products by around 20 percent.
According to Khagendra Mani Pokharel, director general of he Department of Transport Management, the fare fixing committee will fix the new fare within Monday.
Their strike on Sunday had affected the movement of commuters in Bagmati zone including the capital valley. nepalnews.com sd Jun 16 08
