Students protest hike in transport fare

Students have protested the hike in the public transport fare and have demanded up to 50 percent discount for students.

Students affiliated with All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) held chakkajam (blockade of vehicular movement) for half an hour in streets in front of colleges in the capital valley in the morning.

The Nepal Students Union (NSU) affiliated with Nepali Congress (NC) is handing over a memo protesting fare hike and demanding facilities for students to the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, a number of organisations are preparing to gherao the Birendra International Convention Center (BICC) in New Baneshwore – the venue of Constituent Assembly (CA) – to protest the increase in price of fuel and transport fare.

The fourth meeting of CA is slated to take place Wednesday.

After the government-owned Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) hiked the price of fuel by around 21 percent, the transporters have increased their fare by up to 35 percent. nepalnews.com sd Jun 18 08
