Kathmandu valley residents forced to bear the sight of the city's roads
and pavements being littered with garbage and posing possible risks to
their health are finally heaving a sigh of relief as Kathmandu
Metropolitan City (KMC) from today started clearing the garbage that
remained uncollected from the past two weeks.
The protracted dispute was resolved after KMC agreed in principle to meet
the demands of the people living near the landfill site in Sisdole,
Nuwakot, in a meeting with them at the municipality Tuesday.
Following the assurance, Sisdole locals said they would not block KMC
garbage vehicles from dumping the city's wastage in the landfill site.
However, they have said they would just wait and watch till seven days and
that if the government doesn't fulfill its promises within that time then
they would again start to pose obstructions.
Locals of Sisdole had been blocking KMC garbage trucks from transferring
the city's waste there demanding that the government repair two local
schools, construct roads and start other development works in the area. nepalnews.com ag June 18 08
