Prachanda says ‘nationalists’ and republicans should join forces in polls
A day after his party publicised its election manifesto, proposing him as the first president of ‘New Nepal’, Maoist chairman Prachanda today called for an electoral alliance between ‘nationalists’ and republicans.
Speaking at a programme in Matatirtha, Kathmandu, Prachanda said nationalists and pro-republic forces should rise above their self-interest and join forces in the constituent assembly to defend national interest. He, however, did not explain who the nationalist forces were.
Recently, the Maoist strongman had courted controversy when he made a similar call, urging “nationalist royalists” to tie up with his party.
In the election manifesto, the Maoist party has vowed to uproot monarchy and the feudal system, and establish federal democratic republic with a President elected with popular vote.
In today’s programme, Prachanda also said that leftists could win two-thirds majority in the CA election if they forged alliance.
He added that his party was determined to make Nepal a prosperous country within two years. nepalnews.com mk Mar 08 08
