Prachanda rues lack of electoral alliance with UML
Maoist leaders have expressed disappointment after failing to forge electoral alliance with the Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) in Kathmandu valley.
Maoist chairman Prachanda, who is contesting from Kathmandu 10 and Rolpa 2 constituency, has said the message from the lack of leftist electoral alliance was not good.
The UML had recently informed of its decision not to forge electoral alliance with the Maoists in the valley.
“After one UML leader said there would be no leftist alliance in 15 constituencies of the valley, I became emotional. At a time when we are embarking on a great journey of building new Nepal, such remarks are not good signs,” he said, addressing an election rally held at Matatirtha in Kathmandu, Saturday.
The UML has assigned the decision-making power on forging electoral alliance to local level committees. According to UML Kathmandu district committee secretary Rameshwore Phuyal, the party workers are not in favour of forging alliance with Maoists in the valley.
Talking to Kantipur daily, Krishna Gopal Shrestha, UML’s candidate for Kathmandu 10, said, “The constituency number 10 is the fortress of UML. There is no need to forge alliance at place where we will win. But we have sympathy for Prachanda. We want to see him win from Rolpa. We can help him there.” nepalnews.com sd Mar 09 08
