EC to scrap IDs of unqualified election observers
The Election Commission (EC) has said some organisations involved in CA
election observation are found to have mobilised unqualified and
unauthorised persons as observers.
The EC today said that a number of observer groups have deployed
government employees, public school teachers, supporters or
officer-bearers of political parties, who cannot be work as observers as
per the Election Monitoring Directives 2064 B.S, while some appointees do
not meet the required academic qualification (SLC pass).
Asking the observer groups not to deploy unqualified people for the
purpose of the election monitoring, the EC said that concerned district
election offices have been instructed to terminate the IDs of such
appointees.
43 local organisations - most of them NGOs funded by foreign donors- and a
number of international agencies including UNMIN, The Carter Center and
European Union's Election Observer Mission (EOM) have been accredited for
election monitoring. nepalnews.com mk Mar 18 08
