PM discusses election security with Indian envoy

Indian ambassador Shiv Shankar Mukherjee called on Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala Monday morning, just before a top-level meeting of the ruling seven parties, in Baluwatar.

During the meeting that lasted for about half-an-hour was mainly centered on the preparations being made for the Constituent Assembly (CA), election security and India's support for it.

PM Koirala asked the Indian envoy to urge his government to beef up security along the Nepal-India border so that criminal elements would not be able to create any disturbances in the April 10 election.

Mukherjee, in turn, is known to have assured that India would continue to provide its active support for the election.

Earlier, Armed Police Force (APF) chief Basudev Oli briefed PM Koirala about the security arrangement for the polls. The PM asked Oli to keep the APF personnel on maximum alert to ensure the CA poll is held smoothly. nepalnews.com ag Mar 24 08
