No electoral alliance with Maoists unless they start behaving: Oli

Senior CPN (UML) leader K.P Sharma Oli has said electoral alliance with the Maoists is not possible unless the latter promise to stop their 'unruly' behavior.

Speaking at a press conference in Birtamod of Jhapa on Monday, Oli said that electoral alliance with the Maoists is absolutely unlikely in the present situation, but the party could reconsider its position if the Maoists expressed clear commitment to correct their behavior.

Oli, a vocal critic of the Maoists, however contradicted party general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal's views who recently said there was still possibility of some of sort of electoral alliance with left parties in general and the CPN-Maoist in particular to "ensure victory of pro-republic forces" in the April 10 polls.

Failed negotiations for an electoral alliance have led to vicious verbal duel between the leaderships of the two communist parties while there have been a number of violent confrontations between their cadres during election rallies over the past few weeks. nepalnews.com mk Mar 24 08
