RPP-N chief hints at possible alliance of Maoists-royalists
Former royal minister and president of the Rastriya Prajatantra
Party-Nepal (RPP-N) Kamal Thapa has claimed of a possible alliance between
the monarchy and the Maoists.
The Himalayan Times quoted the minister saying that since both the
monarchy and the Maoists are nationalist forces, unity between them is
possible.
Praising the proposal from Maoist chairman Prachanda for an alliance
between the Maoists and nationalist forces, Thapa said, "Don't think that
the proposal came to naught. Time has come to give that proposal a
concrete shape."
Thapa also revealed that talks are underway behind the curtains and the
royalists have sent their message for reconciliation to the Maoists. In the meantime, the Maoist cadres disrupted the mass meeting organised by
Thapa's party in Pokhara on Monday.
Thapa had to flee the stage after the Young Communist League cadres began
pelting stones in the stage saying they would not tolerate any statement
in favour of monarchy.
Reports say around a dozen cadres, from both the sides, were injured
during the scuffle. nepalnews.com ia Mar 25 08
