MK Nepal, Prachanda discuss possible electoral alliance
CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal and Maoist chairman Prachanda
have renewed their effort for an alliance between their parties in the
constituent assembly polls.
The two leaders held a brief meeting at Nepal's residence in Koteshwor
Tuesday morning before embarking on their respective poll campaigns in the
districts. However, no formal decision was taken at the meeting.
Leaders of both the parties have been blaming each other for failed
attempts to forge an electoral, even as they continue to claim that they
are in favour of an alliance of pro-republic forces.
After the meeting, Nepal flew to his constituency in Rautahat while
Prachanda embarked on a tour to eastern districts.
Meanwhile, addressing a mass gathering in Itahari of Sunsari in the
afternoon, Prachanda said that Prime Minister Koirala, who is also the
defence minister, should clarify the suspected import of arms which, he said, is against the spirit of the comprehensive peace agreement.
Claiming that his party has been maintaining patience in the wake of
provocative actions, Prachanda also directed his party cadres to put all
their efforts to hold the constituent assembly elections on the scheduled
date.
The Maoist strongman also came heavily against the big media houses,
accusing them of coming under the pressure of foreign powers. Many
journalists boycotted his function in Itahari after he repeatedly alleged
the media of not being fair towards his party.
Prachanda insisted that big media houses were not showing concern about
the murder of seven Maoist cadres since the announcement of new election
date whereas they exaggerated the smaller incidents involving the Young
Communist League (YCL). nepalnews.com ia Mar 25 08
