Rs 1.8 m collected to save Dolma

More than Rs 1.8 million has been collected till now in a bid to save the life of Dolma Sherpa on whom a death sentence has been slapped for allegedly murdering a Filipino woman in Kuwait.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the major share of the aforesaid amount was collected from Nepali workers in Qatar including Nepali communities in different countries.

While the Qatar-based Nepalis mission had collected Rs 1.1 million from Nepali workers and welfare organizations in Qatar, Rs 300,000 was collected by Association of Non-Resident Nepalis (NRN).

The government had initiated the process of fund raising by providing Rs 400,000 as seed money for remuneration of a defense lawyer on behalf of Doma and to negotiate with the victim's family members for blood money.

It is estimated that around Rs 5 million is needed to appoint a defense lawyer and pay for the blood money. nepalnews.com ag Mar 27 08
