Nepal Festival to be organised in London

The embassy of Nepal, UK-based Nepali business and community organisations and British friends of Nepal have decided to jointly organise "Nepal Festival 2008" in London on September 21-22, 2008.

The decision was taken at a meeting held at the Nepali embassy in London on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the embassy, the Festival would showcase Nepal's trade, tourism, investment, food, fashion, culture, among others. A 12-membr committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Nepali ambassador to the UK, Murari Raj Sharma.

President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association, UK, Damer Ghale and acting chairman of the Britain-Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Anthony Weiler, have been designated as co-chair of the organising committee. Similarly, Dhurba KC, Public Relations Representative of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has appointed coordinator (Tourism) while Surya Gurung, Vice President, NRN (UK), has been appointed coordinator (Cultural program and Fashion show. Chairman of Nepal Business Association UK, Narendra Kandel, has been appointed coordinator (Trade-Nepali side), Mahanta Shrestha of Nepali Caterers Association as coordinator (Nepali food) and Ashish pant of the Deurali UK Limited has been appointed coordinator (Media and Publicity).

Amol Gurung of the Limkokwing University, London has been designated as the Venue Coordinator. Similarly, Minister Counsellor of the Nepali embassy in London, Jhabindra P Aryal and President of the Friends of Britain and Nepal Nepal Tourism Organisation (FBNNTO) have been designated as co-focal points.

The organisers have pledged to make the festival a regular, possibly annual feature in London in the years ahead. It is expected that the festival would contribute significantly to the further strengthening of the economic and cultural ties between the two countries and bring substantial and concrete benefits to the Nepali people, the statement said. nepalnews.com May 16 2008
