NSP-A press meet venue nearly turns into a battleground

Two factions of the Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi), who have been engaging in a vicious verbal duel alleging each other of abducting party president Anandi Devi Singh, were caught flexing muscles against each other during a function organised to make Singh public on Monday.

Speaking at Reporter's Club on Monday, Minister for Industries, Commerce and Supplies Shyam Sundar Gupta, who came along with Singh, claimed the opposition group made false accusations against him.

Opposition group led by vice-chairman Khusi Lal Mandal and central leader Sarita Giri reiterated their statement that Gupta had abducted Singh.

Gupta circulated a statement signed by Singh in which she said she had never been abducted by any one while Mandal and Giri claimed the statement was fake and demanded Singh to speak in person about the incident.

Police had to escort Singh out of the programme hall, filled with journalists and NSP-A party cadres, after both the sides started shoving and pushing each other while trying to take Singh, literally, to their side.

Singh, however, did not speak to media persons. nepalnews.com ia May 19 08
