Continuous demonstrations around Narayanhiti palace demanding its evacuation
Demonstrations continued around Narayanhiti palace for several hours since Thursday morning demanding that sacked King Gyanendra vacate the palace immediately.
The demonstrators frequently clashed with riot police as they tried to break the security cordon. At least 10 people including some policemen
were injured during the clashes. Two persons who sustained head injuries in police lathi-large have been undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital.
The demonstrators also demanded that the government put up the national flag at the main palace building after the royal flag was removed from
there this evening.
With demonstrations continuing, more security personnel have been deployed in the area. The prohibitory order imposed in the vicinity of Narayanhiti palace and some other strategic places ahead of the CA meeting is still in effect.
The Constituent Assembly had yesterday declared Nepal a federal democratic republic and instructed the government to order Gyanendra Shah to vacate the palace within 15 days. The CA had also passed a motion introduced by the government to turn the sprawling palace into a national museum. nepalnews.com mk May 29 08
