MJF-called strike affects life in Biratnagar

The continued transport strike called by Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) in the eastern town of Biratnagar has hit the normal life there on Tuesday as well.

The town has been closed since Monday due to protests by MJF cadres against the killing of Karan Yadav, a MJF cadre, after dispute over the contract for a project of Morang District Development Committee on Sunday.

Marketplaces were closed down while vehicle remained off the streets from early morning today.

The protesters have demanded that the persons involved in the killing ofYadav be brought to justice.

Local leaders of the MJF announced in the afternoon that they had called off the protest for the next 24 hours in view of the Chhath festival being celebrated today. Repots said the situation is returning to normal after the announcement. nepalnews.com ia Nov 04 08
