Continued strike paralyses life in Terai
The continued strike in the Terai districts called by federation of Other Backward Class (OBC) for the fourth consecutive day has hit normal life on Thursday.
Siraha, Saptari and neighbouring districts saw no vehicles on long and short routes while market places and industrial areas remained shut. Additionally, from today onwards, the agitators have called strike in educational institutions as well.
Due to highway closure, the districts faced acute shortage of consumables and Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG).
The federation began agitation alleging the government of not enlisting members of the poor, marginalised and other backward groups under indigenous nationalities.
In its nine-point demands, the federation has asked for enlisting them and neglected languages in the constitution, reservation for the marginalised castes in various state mechanisms as per their population, primary education in their tongue and agriculture loans in subsidiary rates.
Similarly, indefinite strike has been called in Jhapa from today by Limbuwans protesting the arrest of its cadres by police some days back.
In the meantime, Siraha is more tense after the vehicle carrying Nepali Congress acting president Sushil Koirala killed a minor Bal Bahadur Bodh in Karmaiya area Thursday morning.
The locals obstructed the highway after the accident. Police escorted Koirala to a local police station safely. nepalnews.com ia Nov 13 08
