Medical services halted at Bir Hospital for second day
Doctors and other health staff at Bir Hospital in Kathmandu halted all medical services at the out-patient department (OPD) for the second straight day Friday demanding increment in salary and better working environment.
However, not to deny hundreds of patients that flock the centrally located hospital everyday for emergency cases including treatment of other ailments, doctors and health staffs have pitched camps at the outer premises of the hospital to attend to the patients.
The agitating staffs have demanded the vice-chancellor’s resignation, accusing him of failing to fulfill their demand and bring any improvement in the hospital during his two year tenure. They also warned that all other staff would resign from their jobs if he doesn’t quit.
The agitating hospital staff had on Thursday announced that all medical services except emergency will be halted at the hospital for half a day.
They had warned that they would be compelled to announce strike for an indefinite period from Friday if their demands are not met. Their demands includes include implementation of service regulations that incorporate all the staff of the hospital, increment in salary and perks and recruitment of more doctors and health staffs to meet the growing pressure of patients at one of the oldest and busiest public hospitals in the country. nepalnews.com ag Nov 14 08
