Majority of cadres back PM Dahal’s proposal
Prime Minister and party chairman of Maoists, Pushpa Kamal Dahal received a shot in the arm after his proposal on embracing competitive republican system attracted majority support at the National Convention of the Cadres.
At the convention, around 1100 senior cadres had been divided into 21 groups and asked to discuss the two different reports presented.
Of the 21 different groups of cadres, 19 have backed his report by majority. Only two groups came out openly in support of proposal of Mohan Baidya Kiran on immediate march towards people’s republic through people’s revolt.
However, even within same groups, there were cadres who presented ‘different opinions.’
On Tuesday, the Maoists are holding the meeting of their central committee whose decisions would then be presented at the convention before it concludes.
One senior leader of Kiran camp, CP Gajurel has said that the discussions within the party over immediate people’s republic or people’s republic through competitive republican system will continue till the next general convention of the party, which is likely to be held sometime next year. nepalnews.com sd Nov 25 08
