Demands for fresh general convention raised in CPN-Maoist
Central leaders of Maoists have demanded that a fresh general convention of the party be held in order to consolidate the revolutionary zeal.
Responding to the political report presented by party chairman and prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the central committee meeting of the party, the leaders agreed with his conclusion that the party has met with success in its policies and strategies since the beginning of peace process.
But, reports say, the leaders have also raised concerns about the need to protect the revolutionary spirit in the party.
They said that a general convention should be called in order to forge the new strategies in the changed context. It has been seventeen years since the Maoist party held its general convention. As per the party statute, a general convention should be held every five years.
On Saturday, leaders including Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Ram Bahadur Thapa, CP Gajurel, Post Bahadur Bogati, Barsha Man Pun had spoken.
The meeting will continue on Monday. nepalnews.com sd Oct 05 08
