"All prisoners who have completed one-third of their sentence except those facing grave charges of nine kinds including rape, human trafficking, wildlife trafficking and so on will be released," Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam said.

"There will be some court procedures and legal procedures that will have to be first completed though," he added.

"We are also planning to release inmates who face political charges," he said.

Earlier the cabinet had decided to release inmates who have completed fifty percent of their sentence. Gautam said that the cabinet has now made fresh decision to release those completing 33 percent of sentence.

"This is based on a report by a committee formed to recommend ways to reform prisons," he said. nepalnews.com sd Oct 07 08
