Mahastami being observed today

Hindu devotees across the country are observing the Mahastami, the eighth day of the Dashain festival, on Tuesday amidst religious ceremonies and festivities.

Queues of people are seen in various temples of Goddess Durga, also called Shakti Peeths, to offer pujas and sacrifices from early morning. Sacrifices and special offerings are made at Dashainghars and Kots. Machinery, weapons and vehicles are also cleaned and worshipped.

As the day of tika approaches, family members rush to gather together and festivities get heightened.

A total of 54 buffaloes and 54 goats are sacrificed in observance of the rites of Kalaratri at Dashainghar. nepalnews.com ia Oct 07 08
