Year-long special programs to mark Devkota's 100th birth anniversary
Writers and literary figures are planning to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of 'Mahakavi' Laxmi Prasad Devkota, the most revered literary figure of Nepal, in a special manner by organizing a year long literary and other programs related on the poet's life.
A team of writers met with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the latterʼs official residence in Baluwatar this morning and discussed the important contribution Devkota made in enhancing Nepali literature. They also informed PM Dahal that they intend to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Devkota on November 12 in a special manner by organizing various literary and other programs related to the poetʼs life all through the next one year.
In response, PM Dahal assured that the government would extend all the necessary support to celebrate the birth anniversary and the year long festival in memory of Devkota.
Born on November 12, 1908 in Dhobhidhara of Kathmandu, late Devkota penned many books that have captured the imagination of Nepali people and the diasporas living in India and abroad.
He showed his talent in various literary forms including poems, stories, novels and dramas, but it was in poems and essays that he achieved major success
Devkota made immense contribution in Nepali literature with his more than two dozen epics, 644 poems, including many essays, stories and dramas.
His widely-read epic 'Munamadan' is still considered the masterpiece of Nepali literature. nepalnews.com Oct 13 08
