Arzu Deuba elected IUCN councillor
Nepali Congress leader and Constituent Assembly member Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba
has been elected as regional councillor of the World Conservation Union
(IUCN) during its fourth world congress held in Barcelona, Spain recently.
Dr. Deuba is the first candidate to be elected from Nepal in IUCN's
highest decision-making body in its history of sixty years. She won with
maximum NGO support from 118 countries.
The congress elected Ashok Khosla of India as its president.
The 4th World Congress concluded on Tuesday. It was attended by over 8,000
participants representing governments and civil society of more than 177
