Footpath shops to remain until Tihar
The government has agreed to allow the street vendors to run their businesses on the sidewalks of Kathmandu until Tihar festival.
The talks between the government team led by former mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Keshav Sthapit and the agitating street vendors Wednesday arrived at the agreement to remove footpath shops after the Tihar festival.
The government would find an alternative place for the street vendors and issue identity cards to bring them under the tax regime.
After the agreement, the street vendors have called of the shutdown strike in Kathmandu valley scheduled for Thursday.
The government crackdown on footpath shops soon after the Dashain festival irked the vendors, against which several protest programmes were organised. They are now demanding a place where they could run their businesses. nepalnews.com ia Oct 22 08
