Govt committed to timely drafting of constitution: PM
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said the government is committed to
complete the constitution drafting process within the stipulated time.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Reporters Club in the capital
Tuesday, PM Dahal said the government is taking initiatives to forge
political consensus for drafting a constitution that will reflect the
aspiration of the people.
Saying that the constitution would be ready within the two-year timeline,
the PM said the drafting process would begin as soon as the ongoing budget
session ended.
Speaking on the army integration issue, PM Dahal said he was hopeful that
the Nepali Congress (NC) would join the army integration special committee
in order to bring the peace process to a conclusion.
He argued that the NC would be going against the people's mandate as well
as the peace process if it stayed out of the army integration committee.
Reacting to the NC's stance against appointing two members from the Maoist
party in the committee, PM Dahal said the NC, too, had two members in the
peace committee that existed earlier.
"Ram Chandra Poudel as the peace minister was coordinator of that
committee and Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula (of NC) was a member.
We accepted two members from the NC even as our position [in the interim
parliament] was equal. Now it's clear what position we have," he said
defending the appointment of two members from the Maoist party. nepalnews.com mk Oct 28 08
