YCL-YF showdown: UML asks cadres to show restraint

CPN (UML) has asked its cadres to maintain restraint as the eastern town of Dhankuta continued to reel under curfew in the wake of violent clashes between the UML-aligned Youth Force and the Maoist youth wing, Young Communist League (YCL).

Issuing a statement Monday evening, UML central office lamented the showdown between the youth groups, and urged restraint on the part of its cadres. The party also regretted the attack by Youth Force cadres on Maoist district secretary, Chetan, Friday evening following a dispute over collection of tax by YCL cadres from vehicles plying on Dharan-Dhankuta road.

Friday's incident had led to a series of clashes between the cadres of the two communist parties that are key allies in the ruling coalition.

The district administration renewed curfew orders in Dhankuta Bazaar today after reports of fresh violence. nepalnews.com mk Sept 01 08
