Govt plans to provide relief to 50,000 flood displaced for nine months
The government has said it plans to provide relief to 50,000 people affected by the breach in the Saptakoshi embankment that caused flooding in Nepal and neighboring Indian state of Bihar.
It said that an estimated Rs 450 million is required for providing relief including food, shelter and other basic necessities to the affected people for nine months.
According to the Kathmandu Post, the Home Ministry proposed the action plan for cabinet approval after it was discussed at the Central Natural Disaster Rescue Committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bam Dev Gautam on Monday.
The proposals forwarded by the Committee are to be approved at Wednesday's cabinet meeting, the report said.
Home Ministry officials told the paper that many donor agencies have shown interest in extending support for relief and rehabilitation efforts including World Food Program which has pledged food for a month. nepalnews.com Sep 03 08
