UML CC meet passes Khanal's political report that calls for friendly ties
with Maoists
The ongoing meeting of CPN (UML) central committee Friday passed general
secretary Jhala Nath Khanal's political report, with slight revision.
Leaders said the general secretary's report stresses that the party, as an
important ally in the coalition government, should maintain friendly
relations with the Maoists in order to complete the constitution-making
process smoothly.
It also underscores the need to unite the party internally so as to
revitalise the organisation in the aftermath of the loss the party
suffered in the Constituent Assembly election.
General secretary Khanal answered the questions raised during the
discussion before his report was approved.
During the discussion, UML sources said, a number of central committee
members expressed discontent over the selection of leaders representing
the party in the government. Some leaders even criticised the party
leadership for trying to groom the newly formed Youth Force a la the Young
Communist League (YCL) of the Maoists, suggesting that the group should
minimise the aggressive actions it has indulged in recent days.
The meeting, which started on Tuesday at the party's central office in
Balkhu, will run for few more days, taking decisions on organisational
matters and the upcoming 8th general convention, central member Yuba Raj
Karki, said. nepalnews.com mk Sept 05 08
