NC to hold general convention a year later

The main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to hold its 12th general convention a year later.

The meeting of the central committee of the party, which concluded on Saturday, decided that the party's next general convention will be held in late August next year.

Even though the tenure of the leadership chosen by the 11th convention has expired a few days ago, the party's central committee had decided to extend the tenure by one year by putting off the general convention.

The party leadership was forced to set the date for new general convention after several members threatened to write note of dissent if the party did not either set the date for general convention or call the Maha Samiti meeting.

Meanwhile, the party has made nine different decisions on various political issues. It has concluded that the party will play the role of opposition in a constructive manner.

"We will not just attempt to pull down the government. We want to play the role of constructive opposition," said NC vice president Gopal Man Shrestha. He said that the party will carefully watch the activities of the Maoist government.
