NEPSE index suffers heavy loss as NT shares collapse
Nepal Telecom (NT) shares had buoyed up Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index last week, but this week it contributed to its downfall.
Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) shed 108.18 points largely due to a big fall in the prices of NT shares and closed at 1067.20 points on Thursday, the last day of stock trading.
The prices of NT shares closed at Rs 992 per unit Thursday, down from Rs 1,347 per unit on Sunday, the first day of trading of the week.
According to NEPSE, 611,096 units of shares worth Rs 643.6 million were traded through 3,536 transactions during the week.
Group wise trading indices showed that Hotel, Trading and Finance groups were the gainers this week while Commercial Bank group, Others group (under which NT falls), Hydropower and Insurance groups were among the losers. nepalnews.com Sep 07 08
