Nepal festival in Melbourne
The Non Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Australia, in association with the Embassy of Nepal in Australia and the Nepali Consulate in Victoria organised the first Nepal Festival 2008 under the theme "Celebrating Unity and Harmony in Diversity" in Melbourne on September 7.
Representing the premier of Victoria, Jenny Mikakos MP, Parliamentary
Secretary for Planning and Member for Northern Metropolitan Region, speaking
at the inaugural function, congratulated the Nepali community for promoting
Victoria's multiculturalism and expressed Victorian government's commitment
to working together with the growing Nepalis in future.
Charge' d'Affaires of the Nepali Embassy commended NRN Australia and the Victorian Nepali community for their efforts to promote Nepal's culture and identity through such events and thanked the Victorian government for the continued support extended to the Nepalis under its widely acclaimed policy of multiculturalism.
Local Nepali artists from Melbourne and Sydney performed several ethnic Nepali dances including classical fusion music. Over 6000 people visited the event. nepalnews.com ia Sep 08 08
