Illegal Tibetans to be returned

The government is preparing to send back Tibetan exiles living illegally in the country, according to a report in Kantipur daily.

Police and immigration authorities have initiated joint investigation following strong directive by deputy prime minister and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam to stop the activities of Tibetan refugees.

According to chief of Kathmandu police Sarbendra Khanal, police have detained 64 and 42 Tibetan refugees, respectively, on Tuesday and Wednesday. They were demonstrating in front of Chinese Embassy’s visa section in Hattisar. Their records have been sent to the immigration department for investigation.

“If they have refuge status, they have to stay within specified limits. Otherwise they will have to leave the country,” said an immigration official.

Home Ministry officials have said that the detained refugees won’t be released since their demonstrations had not only affected traffic movement but also country’s foreign relations.

The government has been deploying over 400 police personnel everyday in and around Chinese embassy in Baluwatar and its visa section in Hattisar in order to stop Tibetans’ demonstrations. nepalnews.com Sep 11 08
