Home Minister vows to crack down on cyber crimes
After coming down heavily on Kathmandu's night life by tightening grips on dance bars and making casinos off-limits for Nepalis, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bam Dev Gautam has pledged that the government would introduce effective cyber laws and check "illegal activities" going on inside cyber cafes.
Speaking at programme "Safe Internet for Children" organised in the capital Thursday, Gautam said that the government would closely monitor the activities inside cyber cafes to check cyber crimes including anti-social activities that goes inside it.
Gautam said that to fight this malaise effective cyber laws are necessary and that the government would soon introduce one.
Nepal doesn't have any operational cyber laws to deal with cyber related crimes.
Home Minister Gautam also underscored the need to revise the law related to child rights protection and said the government is serious regarding this issue.
Saying that the government is very serious towards maintaining law and order in the country, Gautam cautioned that nobody taking the laws into own hands will be spared.
A week ago, Gautam had said that he would not spare political outfits like Maoist affiliated Young Communist League (YCL) or even Youth Force, the youth wing of his own party UML, if they tried to cause problem in maintaining law and order.
He also said that some fundamental aspects of the new constitution has been finalised, making it clear that it would be adhere to the principles of federalism. nepalnews.com ag Sep 11 08
