Parliamentary proceedings adjourned for half hour after NC CA members gherao rostrum
The Constituent Assembly (CA), sitting in it's capacity of legislative parliament, was suspended for half an hour Friday afternoon after the CA members of the main opposition, Nepali Congress (NC), gheraoed the rostrum, demanding "judicial inquiry" into the alleged murder of NC cadre Pradip Khadka by the police in Lalitpur on Wednesday.
Following the demand of NC legislators for government's clarification over the incident, Minister for Water Resources Bishnu Poudel, on behalf of the Home Minister, said the government would form an inquiry committee and initiate action according to the recommendation it makes.
Unimpressed by the minister's clarification, Congress CA members gheraoed the rostrum, saying they would not allow the proceeding unless the government agreed to constitute a high-level judicial commission to probe the case. The session, called to discuss the government's policies and programmes, was then adjourned for half an hour from 12:30 pm.
Speaking at the parliament, Congress CA member Dr Narayan Khadka quoting eyewitnesses said there were evidences that police tortured Pradip Khadka to death.
Police, on the other hand, have said Khadka died at Patan Hospital where he had been admitted after a motorbike accident. nepalnews.com mk Sept 12 08
