Curfew still in force in Manthali

Fear of fresh violence between the youth wings of the two main ruling parties - CPN (Maoist) and CPN (UML) - has forced the local administration of Ramechhap to continue curfew orders in the district headquarters Manthali.

The District Administration Office continued the curfew after the cadres of the Maoist-aligned Young Communist League (YCL) and UML's Youth Force took out angry protest rallies in the morning, giving rise to fears of violent confrontation.

The DAO had imposed curfew after a clash between the two groups from 9 pm Friday. Clash started after a passing rally of Youth Force chanted slogans against YCL and the Maoist party.

A UML cadre, who was seriously injured in the clash, has been airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment.

Recently, the two groups had engaged in a violent scuffle for days in Dhakuta Bazaar after dispute over collection of tax from vehicles plying on Dharan-Dhankuta road. nepalnews.com mk Sept 13 08
