PM Dahal reaches New Delhi
In his first tour to the southern neighbor after he took office as the first prime minister of republican Nepal, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal reached New Delhi, Sunday evening, on a five-day goodwill visit.
Senior Indian government officials including Union Minister of State for Home, Dr. Shakeel Ahmed, welcomed PM Dahal at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Dahal flew to New Delhi by a Nepal Airlines plane at around 5 pm, leading a 40-member government entourage apart from 38-member entourage of business representatives..
His official schedule will begin from Monday when he will hold separate meetings with Indian President Pratibha Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Indian premier Dr. Manmohan Singh, chief of the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Sonia Gandhi and L.K Advani, the leader of main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Nepal-India friendship treaty of 1950, Koshi dam, trade relation and border problems top the agendas of the PM's India visit, but no bilateral agreements will be signed. Earlier Sunday, the government decided not to go for any agreement during the visit as national consensus is necessary before signing any agreement with a foreign country
At the end of his visit, he will also tour the South Indian city of Bangalore on Wednesday before returning home on Thursday.
