PM Dahal expected to 'hobnob' with US Prez during dinner party
In his maiden visit to America whose "imperialism" he always disparaged, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' is scheduled to attend a reception to be hosted by U.S President George W. Bush today evening to welcome the head of states and leaders of the world who have flocked in New York to attend the 63rd general assembly of the United Nations.
During the dinner party PM Dahal, who is also the chairman of CPN (Maoist), is expected to hobnob with U.S President Bush, but it is not sure whether they would indulge in any one-to-one talks.
The Foreign Department of the ruling CPN (Maoist) has said that PM Dahal would also use the landmark visit to cajole the US authorities to remove his party from the 'group of concern' list maintained by U.S State Department.
Despite forming the first republican government of Nepal and perhaps the first elected Maoist government in the world, U.S is yet to change its traditional way of looking at the former rebel party, still describing it, although loosely, as a "terrorist organisation" inspired by communist China.
PM Dahal is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on Friday wherein he will tell the world community about the recent political changes in Nepal, the peace process and the achievement of the Maoist government he leads. While in New York, PM Dahal will also attend programmes organised by The Asia Society and India China Institute, according to reports. nepalnews.com ag Sep 22 08
