Govt to scale up relief efforts for flood victims in west
Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam has said that the government will scale up relief efforts to help the victims of floods in western region of the country.
Gautam said that the government has decided to allocate Rs 500 million for the relief and rehabilitation efforts to help tens of thousands of people displaced by floods in several rivers in mid and far western region of the country. Earlier the government had decided to allocate only Rs 15 million for the purpose.
Gautam, who is the officiating Prime Minister, could travel to the affected region on Thursday.
"The relief and rehabilitation will be carried out immediately. You need not worry," said Gautam, Wednesday, during an interaction with CA members representing the mid and far western region.
Gautam hinted that the government was considering providing Rs 5 billion for the relief and reconstruction of the area. nepalnews.com sd Sep 24 08
