FM Yadav urges intl community to address needs of LDCs

Upendra Yadav, Minister for Foreign Affairs urged the international community to pay focused and enhanced attention to the needs and problems of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) by timely fulfilling their commitments made in the Brussels Programme of Action.

Addressing the annual ministerial meeting of the LDCs in New York on the sidelines of the 63rd session of the United Nations General Assembly Monday, Minister Yadav emphasized the needs for proactively pursuing sustainable development efforts and greater need of financial and technical resources in order to ensure efficient implementation of international development partnership programmes.

He also highlighted the special challenges posed by global climate change, food and fuel prices. Yadav informed the ministerial meeting about the on-going socio-economic transformation in Nepal and mentioned that Nepal's new government is committed to creating an inclusive Nepal.

Minister Yadav also stressed the need for effective preparation for the fourth United Nations Conference on LDCs to be convened in 2011 and emphasized on the need for engaging all stakeholders in this process with a view to strengthening partnership for development.

The meeting adopted a ministerial declaration and called for enhanced measures from the international community to expedite the implementation of the Brussels Programme of Action with a view to ending poverty and promoting sustainable development in these countries. nepalnews.com ia Sep 30 08
