Voting resumes after some disturbances, no violence reported
The Constituent Assembly (CA) by-elections in several stations in two districts were delayed due to technical problems that occurred in Electronic Voting Machines (EVM). After new machines were delivered to the centers through helicopters from Kathmandu, voting process has resumed.
The disturbances were seen in nine polling centers of Kaski constituency-1 and 11 centers in Dhanusha constituency – 5.
There have been no disputes or any conflict reported so far. By mid-day, except in two districts where technical difficulties were seen, around 20 percent of voters had cast their votes. Voters seemed confused with new voting technology.
In the meantime, former prime minister and president of Nepali Congress Girija Prasad Koirala cast his vote at Adarsha Higher Secondary School in Morang. Speaking after the casting vote, Koirala said though it is by-election, it holds special importance in national politics. He stressed the need to uphold unity and fraternity during the polls.
Election Commission said results will start coming within three hours voting process completes. Voting process ends at 5 p.m.
