Mid-Marshyangdi starts production in its full capacity
The second largest hydro-power project of the country, 70 MW
Mid-Marshyangdi has started production in its full capacity during peak
hours since last week.
The hydel project is producing 70 to 75 MW electricity for about two to
three hours each in mornings and evenings daily by operating both its
turbines, reports say.
The project had been operating only one turbine citing lack of water due
to a prolonged dry spell since it started production four months ago.
It started operating both the turbines during peak hours as the water
volume increased due to melting of snow in the reason. In normal hours it
operates only one turbine that produces 20 to 35 MW power.
With this, the installed capacity of Nepal Electricity Authority has
increased by eleven per cent.
NEA sources have said, melting of snow will increase significantly by the
end of this month hence increasing the production from various
run-off-the-river hydel projects in the country.
The increase is expected to provide some relief to the people reeling
under power outage for up to 14 hours daily. nepalnews.com Apr 14 09
