UML names representatives for joint-mechanism

A standing committee meeting of the ruling CPN (UML) has formed a team led by general secretary Ishwar Pokhrel to represent the party in the high-level joint mechanism of the ruling parties.

The meeting held at party headquarters, Balkhu on Thursday has named secretary Shankar Pokhrel and central committee member Surendra Pande as other members for the joint mechanism. It has also decided to include one of the ministers representing the party in the team.

The party had not revised the team after its general convention. The joint mechanism was led by former general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal.

The party has also decided to hold talks with other fringe left-wing parties for cooperation. A talks team will be formed for the purpose.

The standing committee also discussed chairman Jhala Nath Khanal's China visit. Khanal is leaving for China with a five-member team at the invitation of the Chinese Communist Party on Saturday. nepalnews.com Apr 17 09
