Bardiya DAO issues ultimatum to return land to rightful owners

The District Administration Office (DAO), Bardiya has asked Maoist cadres to return the lands captured from various people during the insurgency to their rightful owners within 15 days.

The DAO issued such ultimatum following a direction from the home ministry, on Friday. The administration will use force to vacate such land if it is not returned voluntarily within the mentioned time, the DAO has said.

According to an estimate, more than 200 Bigahas (1350 ha) of land belonging to various people is under the control of Maoists since they captured it from the owners during insurgency.

Home ministry directed the district administration to vacate such land and hand it over to the rightful owners as per the commitments expressed in the PM’s address to the parliament earlier this week.

Return of land to the rightful owners is one of the main demands put forward by the main opposition party Nepali Congress. The party had obstructed the proceedings of the House to press for this demand. nepalnews.com Apr 18 09
