Trade unions demand constitutional rights for workers
Trade union leaders have sought constitutional guarantee for the rights of workers when the country gets the new constitution.
Six major trade unions affiliated to various political parties and Confederation of Professionals-Nepal (CoNEP) handed over their demand list to chairman of Constitutional Committee Madhav Kumar Nepal on Tuesday.
The seven trade unions, on the eve of the May Day, have come under the common banner of Joint Trade Union Coordination Centre (JTUCC) to work for rights of the workers.
The memo submitted to Nepal demanded for constitutional provision for formation of Labour Commission to look after all issues related to workers, better social security policy and justifiable pay among others.
Receiving the suggestions from trade union leaders, Nepal said integrated view from major trade unions will make it easy for the committee to incorporate labour rights in the new constitution. He stressed for strengthening relation between workers and the investors to pave way for smooth economic development.
