Govt prepares to start reservation in Army
The government is preparing to issue 'Proportional Reservation Ordinance' in order to implement reservation in the Nepal Army. Such reservation was already in place in the civil service, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force.
"There has been an agreement to start provisions for reservation in the Army," Minister for Commerce and Supplies Rajendra Mahato told Kantipur Daily. "An ordinance will be issued to materialise it this week."
The cabinet meeting on Friday had passed a decision to start reservations in all government appointments. According to the decision, 45% of the seats would be allocated for reservations. From among the reserved seats 32% will be allocated for aboriginals and ethnic groups, 28% for Madhesis, 20% for women, 15% for Dalits and 5% for backward communities.
Earlier, in an attempt to address the demands of social inclusion the government formed two battalions with a particular group of people. Five years ago, Ripumardan Battalion was formed including the Kirat community of the east and Naya Sabuj battalion was formed to include the Madhesis. nepalnews.com ta Feb 02 09
