Two power houses stop production; power outage might increase
Even before it could formally announce the reduction in loadshedding hours as committed by its Executive Director, Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is faced by another unanticipated problem which might force it to increase the load shedding hours again.
The second largest private sector power house Bhotekoshi has stopped its production from Thursday thanks to technical problems and another private sector power house Indrawati has stopped prodution thanks to protests from locals from Friday.
This results in the reduction of 17 MW power to the National grid of NEA.
The 36 MW- Bhotekoshi was producing only 14 MW and 7.5 MW Indrawati III was producing only 3 MW.
Total power supply in the country will reduce by to 201 MW from 218 MW with this change. Power demand in the country is about 800 MW. NEA officials have said they will announce a new load shedding schedule next week.
Meanwhile, NEA has said it will import 45 MW power from India beginning mid-February when the repair work of transmission towers washed away by Koshi floods in Katihar is expected to be complete. nepalnews.com ta Feb 07 09
